Jaycee Projects
The most rewarding part of being in the Chillicothe Jaycees is to
see how your efforts improve the lives of the people in the community.
The Chillicothe Jaycees helps out by improving the parks, giving
donations to other charitable organizations, and by bringing the
community together in public celebrations such as the Chillicothe
Halloween Parade. The time and effort that our members put into
these projects is a valuable resource to the community. When you bring
hard working and dedicated individuals together, the results of their
efforts grow exponentially.
The Chillicothe Jaycees believes that "service to
humanity is the best work of life." This is not only our
motto, it is also the base from which our organization is built. Below
are a few of the community projects in which the Jaycees are involved.
Appreciation Banquet
3rd Wednesday in January. A banquet to thank our families, employers
and the community. We also give member awards and honor a citizen of the year. This is an
old ongoing project. It was called Father/Boss Banquet due to the fact the organization was all men.
Good Sam Food Drive
Usually held when the Good Sam is in the most need. Collect non-perishable food at a local market for Good Samaritan Food
Network. This is an older ongoing project, although we have skipped a year here and there.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl for Kids
Held end of March/beginning of April. We have a team that collects sponsors and bowls to support BB/BS.
This has been an older ongoing project.
Chillicothe Easter Egg Hunt
Held the Saturday before Easter in the Yocatangee Park in Chillicothe. We fill thousands of plastic eggs
with candy and prizes and hide them in the park for Chillicothe kids to find. This project takes hours to set up
but only minutes for the kids to find all the eggs.
Fish Fry
Usually in May, held at the 40 & 8th building in Yoctangee Park. This project helps raise funds for the Jaycees
as we fry and sell fish dinners and sandwiches.
Relay for Life
Held in June. We park cars on opening night, Friday, of the event.
Family Fun Fest
Held in September. We donate to this event held at OU-C and set up for Kid Care Id’s. Kid Care Id’s is
identification cards for children. In the past we would weigh, measure and take a Polaroid photo.
With the technology progress, we now work with the Ross County Sheriff’s department and issue driver license
type id cards with the child’s picture, height, weight and finger print. This is an older ongoing project.
Bike Race
Held in either May or September in the Yoctangee Park City Pool Parking Lot. The bike races are for tricycles
to bicycles. Ages are generally up to 12. Children are put in division by age, bike type and gender.
Each division lines up in lanes and first to finish is the winner.
Golf Tournaments
The Jaycees hold a series of golf tournaments every year to help rais funds for our organization. We usually host three annual
tournaments. The Michelob Golf Tournament is our biggest tournament usually consisting of 30-40 four man teams in a golf scramble format.
The Day/Night Golf tournament is a favorite in scramble format. Teams play nine hole in the daylight and nine hole at night with glow-in-the-dark
golf balls. The spring fling is another golf tournament we hold as a two man scramble.
Halloween Parade
Held the last Saturday in October in downtown Chillicothe. The Jaycees handle everything in the Halloween parade from
entry forms, line up, naming the parade contest, Jr. & Grand Marshal, dignitary’s cars, float & costume judging to
set up and clean up. The Evening Lions help with lining up entrants on the day of the parade.
Special Santa
The Special Santa project is one of our most popular projects. The Jaycees have a separate comitte dedicated to this project. Every Christmas, trees with the names of needy children
and put on Christmas trees in public restaurants and venues. People from the community grab and ornament with a kids name on
it from our tree and buy gifts for that particular child and then return the gift to the place where they got the ornament.
Thousands of kids are able to open up presents at Christmas time because of this project. This is a 501(c)3 which means that all
gifts are tax deductible for this project.
