Jaycee Projects

The most rewarding part of being in the Chillicothe Jaycees is to see how your efforts improve the lives of the people in the community. The Chillicothe Jaycees helps out by improving the parks, giving donations to other charitable organizations, and by bringing the community together in public celebrations such as the Chillicothe Halloween Parade. The time and effort that our members put into these projects is a valuable resource to the community. When you bring hard working and dedicated individuals together, the results of their efforts grow exponentially.

The Chillicothe Jaycees believes that "service to humanity is the best work of life." This is not only our motto, it is also the base from which our organization is built. Below are a few of the community projects in which the Jaycees are involved.

Appreciation Banquet

3rd Wednesday in January. A banquet to thank our families, employers and the community. We also give member awards and honor a citizen of the year. This is an old ongoing project. It was called Father/Boss Banquet due to the fact the organization was all men.

Good Sam Food Drive

Usually held when the Good Sam is in the most need. Collect non-perishable food at a local market for Good Samaritan Food Network. This is an older ongoing project, although we have skipped a year here and there.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl for Kids

Held end of March/beginning of April. We have a team that collects sponsors and bowls to support BB/BS. This has been an older ongoing project.

Chillicothe Easter Egg Hunt

Held the Saturday before Easter in the Chillicothe Park in cooperation with We Be Clowns. We donate $1000 and help man the event beginning around 8am on that Saturday.

2 Man Spring Golf Scramble

In the spring. 2 man golf tournament. This is a new project of 2006.

Fish Fry

Usually in May, held at the Lions Shelter in Yoctangee Park. Fry and sell fish dinners and sandwiches. This is a new project of 2005.

Relay for Life

Held in June. We park cars on opening night, Friday, of the event. This is a new project of 2005.

Classic Brands (Budweiser, Bud Light, Michelob) Golf Tournament

Held in late June/early July. This has always been our biggest fundraiser. It is an all day golf tournament with a shot gun start.Food and prizes are provided. This is an old ongoing project.

Family Fun Fest

Held in September. We donate to this event held at OU-C and set up for Kid Care Id’s. Kid Care Id’s is identification cards for children. In the past we would weigh, measure and take a Polaroid photo. With the technology progress, we now work with the Ross County Sheriff’s department and issue driver license type id cards with the child’s picture, height, weight and finger print. This is an older ongoing project.

Bike Race

Held in either May or September in the Yoctangee Park City Pool Parking Lot. The bike races are for tricycles to bicycles. Ages are generally up to 12. Children are put in division by age, bike type and gender. Each division lines up in lanes and first to finish is the winner. This is an old ongoing project. Due to weather we have missed years.

Day/Night Golf Tournament

Held in early fall. Starts in the early after noon and ends at night.1st 9 played during day with 2nd 9 played at night. Night holes are marked with glow sticks and glow balls are used. Food and prizes are provided at this tournament as well. This is a fairly new project.

Halloween Parade

Last Saturday in October, downtown Chillicothe. This project is our oldest ongoing projects. We handle everything from entry forms, line up, naming the parade contest, Jr. & Grand Marshal, dignitary’s cars, float & costume judging to set up and clean up. The Evening Lions help with lining up entrants on the day of the parade.

Special Santa

July-December. This project is a standing committee of the Chillicothe Jaycees. It has a separate board and federal tax id number. This was done so grants could be applied for and donations would be tax deductible. This project is an old ongoing project. It has grown from shopping for a few children service children to becoming more of a middle man and supplying over 1000 children with Christmas. It is listed as a long project due to the various parts. A very brief description of this project would be: Applications are reviewed and sent to the printers in July, then handed out to all public schools in Ross County, Pioneer School and Ross County Headstarts within the first couple weeks of school. Applications are usually due back in October where a database is set up and ornaments are made to be distributed to the public by Thanksgiving weekend. In December we pick up gifts and distribute the packages to the parents. This is a very brief description; if you would like more information please contact an officer.
